School News December 6, 2016

Megan Gilkerson was the latest winner in our monthly $500 gift card drawing.  Stop by the school office and buy a ticket. Also the 7th and 8th grade class is selling chances for ½ of a hog to be drawn on December 16. Do not forget to buy scrip cards. They make a great Christmas Present and a portion goes to the school.

I want to take this time to let you know about the Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School Advancement Council. The role of the Advancement Council is to tell the school “success stories,” raising awareness of the contributions that Catholic schools and especially SSPP make to their communities. We hope to establish a more diverse advancement plan that includes things like an annual fund and planned giving, retention and enrollment programs, and marketing to our community.  Maybe you did not know but our school is composed of more than 50% non-Catholic students. That is why it is so important for all parents, Catholic and non-Catholic to work together to help grow the school. We really are a family and families work together

We will have our next meeting on December 8 at 7pm in the school cafeteria.  Please consider attending.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break

Hello to everyone. This has been a wonderful year so far. Due to a generous donor we were able to run six 30 second commercials this past week on WOAY channel 5 promoting our school.

I took our 7th grade class to Camp Magis on the 28th, 29th and 30th of September. During the time at camp they learned more about God, service and about teamwork.  At the same time fun was had by all. Camp Magis is held every year in Huttonsville, WV for all 7th graders in our Diocese.

Click here to visit the Camp Magis website BrownRibbon.net

I have been placing the donated tennis balls on the chair legs and it is making a great difference. If anyone has any more laying around please consider donating to us. Thank you to those who have donated tennis balls.

On Wednesday October 19 the students and staff will dress in orange for the National Anti-Bullying day.

On Wednesday October 26 the students and staff will dress in Pink for cancer awareness month.

As always thank you for your prayers and support.

Tuesdays I always have coffee available from 9 to 10. Please drop in and say hi.

Ricky

It has been a;most a month since school started. Today we are having GRAND PARENTS DAY at our school.

The conundrum is approaching quickly and we wanted to send some information out for anyone who is interested in attending. If you are still wondering what the Conundrum is…it’s a scavenger hunt setup for the entire family. All ages are able to participate. This will be a fun, friendly race to see who can rack up the most points. Maybe you will catch a newt with a net, row across a pond, see an amazing view from an overlook, or even do some hiking. Then enjoy some BBQ and s’mores to wrap up a fun-filled day. Tickets are still available in the office! Invite your friends and family too! The cost for an adult is $12 and $7 for kids 12 and under. The date is September 18th. Please stop by the school and buy your tickets.

We are off to a great start. I think some parents were ready for summer to end. The children not so much, but they have settled down and are busy learning again.

Over the summer we upgraded our computer network and added 80 Chromebook computers.  This was accomplished due to a grant from the Diocese and a generous donation from a Church family. This allows almost every student to have 1 to 1 use of the Chromebook.

Next year I will attempt to get funding to purchase 10 to 20 more Chromebooks. If anyone would like to help, please let me know.

If anyone would like to be a guest speaker at the school please let me know. I am always looking for someone to share their expertise.

Thank you for your prayers and support,

Teachers return August 10.

We will have Orientation/Open House on Thursday August 11th at 6pm. Please tell your friends.

School starts for students on Monday August 15th.

I have wonderful news. We will be upgrading our network and computers at SSPP. We applied for and received a grant from the Diocese for $5,000.00. I also had a Church family who wishes to remain anonymous donate $18,640.00. This will enable us to purchase 80 Chromebooks and upgrade our wireless system. I have also received $500 each for our PE program, our Science program and our Art program. This is such a blessing to our school.

If anyone would like to donate to SSPP for either a specific project or to the general fund please either call me on my cell phone 405-812-5448 or drop by. Thank you everyone for all you do.
