October is here! We are busy in third and fourth grades learning many new and exciting things. In addition to our regular Social Studies curriculum, we are studying about Christopher Columbus and will be completing a poster project about what we have learned. The posters will be submitted to the Knights of Columbus for a Columbus Day contest between SSPP and St. Francis de Sales. (The students will also receive a Social Studies grade based on content and presentation.) After we finish with Christopher Columbus, we will begin pocket folder projects about Native Americans (Inuit, Tlingit, Nez Perce, Maidu, Sioux, Navajo, Iroquois, and Seminole).
Addition, subtraction and estimation will soon be replaced by studying multiplication and division in Math. Complex sentences, proper and common nouns are next on the agenda in English. Similes and metaphors will be mixed in also. The Science Fair is coming up and we are excited that fourth grade will be participating! In August and September, both grades studied plants and are now learning about animals/animal kingdoms. We want to shout out a HUGE thank you to Dr. Helen Greenwood for leading our science labs on Mondays.
